  27. NOTE: I've seen some people uploading my releases in other servers. I recommend you always getting
  28. my releases of my uploads in the forums above, because sometimes I release fixes or re-launch some
  29. games that have problems. If you get my uploads you'll be sure of having the latest releases.
  30. Additionally, you'll get the original package, not images made from discs, so you'll be sure that
  31. nothing is corrupted.

  34. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 (NTSC-U) *Repack*
  35. ------------------------------------------
  36. Ripped: Ambient sounds (see readme)
  37. Downsampled: Levels preview mini-videos; some companies videos.
  38. Source: GD dump.
  39. === ATTENTION: ===
  40. You need to execute the "unpack.bat" before burning, it will unpack the .ecm file and create your
  41. .cdi image.
  42. If you need to apply any patch, do it in the unpacked .cdi file, not in the .ecm file.
  43. ==================
  44. I've attached the original readme below this one, you should give it a look. Just a correction, I
  45. said before that the ripped ambient sounds could not be noticed when you played with music, but
  46. the true is that they're not played at all if music is playing. The only ocasion when they play is
  47. if you set Music Volume to 0 in the options menu, and I doubt anyone would want that.
  48. This repack is pretty much the same of the last release, except that I've moved second session
  49. start closer to the border of the disc to correct reader's movement at some points. Additionally,
  50. I could make more space re-linking redundant files, and videos were re-encoded with a better
  51. encoder. Note that only logos and preview mini-videos were re-encoded, and it's almost impossible
  52. to notice any difference.
  53. If you are not familiar with the last release, you should grab this one right now. Intact videos
  54. and much much much better reading performance, some things that only DCRES can do for you.
  55. PAL users, this game will already boot in 60hz on your consoles.
  56. Have fun with another release.
  57. Features of my release:
  58. - Not corrupted files at all, it was made with GD dump files.
  59. - Used custom DCRES optimization techniques. It means faster loadings and less Dreamcast reader
  60. noise.
  61. - Selfboot.
  62. About the game:
  63. - It has VGA Box support.
  64. Other comments:
  65. - "Extras" folder in the pack contains some useless stuff.
  66. - Release comes with covers.

  74. -------------------------------------------
  75. Ripped: Ambient sounds (can't be noticed, see readme).
  76. Downsampled: Some videos (only companies logos, other videos are intact).
  77. Source: GD dump.
  78. First of all, I'd like to say I'm very proud of the work I made in this game. All important videos
  79. (introduction, ending videos) are intact, so as sound of them and in-game music. How I did that?
  80. First, I examined the "preview" videos, you know, the little ones that plays when you select a
  81. level. Like the music videos in THPS 1, they're encoded them with the same quality of the main
  82. videos (bad work, bad work...), including the sound (yeah, I know they don't play any sound!). So
  83. I re-encoded then to a very little bitrate, and guess what, I played them side by side and
  84. couldn't notice any difference. Well, at this point I still needed some space, so I took a look at
  85. the music files. Each level has a ambient "music", and you can't hear them with music turned on.
  86. It's useless sounds like birds in the school, horns in NY, etc. I deleted them, and you wouldn't
  87. notice if I haven't tell you. It doesn't affect the gameplay at all. The only way to notice that
  88. is if you play without music, and I doubt anyone do that. At this point files almost could fit in
  89. a CD-R. To get the extra space I needed, I downsampled companies intro videos (I haven't touched
  90. the cool introduction video!), and you can't notice any difference (even if you could, who care
  91. about them?). As a bonus, I adjusted the volume of Activi... logo, because the guys that ported
  92. the game just used copy/paste in the intro of other game, and volume level was different of the
  93. other videos. Anyway, I got the space I needed. Again: all videos except companies logos and mini
  94. level preview are intact, it means full quality and stereo sound. Same about the sounds and music,
  95. nothing touched, full quality and stereo sound. Echelon got the space they needed downsampling the
  96. videos, but I found a better solution. Last thing was adjusting file order. Last thing but the
  97. most important, because files were a mess, all in alphabetic order (again, bad work!). You
  98. remember Echelon's release? Everything you select made your Dreamcast reader moves a lot making
  99. noises? Well, that's solved. I optimized file order as I did in THPS 1, and results got very
  100. alike. Your reader almost don't move during reading! It means faster loadings and MUCH LESS noise.
  101. A lot less. After making that I hacked binary and burnt the disc with a little dummy file. If you
  102. like this game and have played other releases, I really recommend that you try this one, it's much
  103. better for sure.
  104. Don't forget that the Dreamcast version is the better version ever made of this game, because
  105. Playstation version (ignoring its bad graphics) has a lot of "fog" (your view distance is very
  106. small) and choppy videos (15fps?). Same happens with PC version, that is a port of Playstation
  107. game. It's the same crap but in higher resolution. In Dreamcast you have a very nice view distance
  108. and 30fps videos. Enjoy!
  109. Features of my release:
  110. - Not corrupted files at all, it was made with GD dump files.
  111. - Used a much improved file order, loadings are much faster, Dreamcast reader makes much less
  112. noise.
  113. - Selfboot.
  114. - Dummied for 700mb CDs.
  115. About the game:
  116. - It has VGA Box support.
  117. Other comments:
  118. - "Extras" folder in the pack contains some useless stuff.
  119. - Release comes with covers.
